Kangaroo and pork are the ‘other lean meats’ and shouldn’t be forgotten when putting a healthy meal plan together as they can often be reasonably cheap.
Kangaroo is one of the leanest meats available in Australia. It is also the richest known source of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), which has been shown in studies to help with weight management. Kangaroo ‘farming’ is also gentler on the environment than breeding other meats and is always free-range.
Outside Australia, kangaroo meat may be hard to find and can be substituted with bison or lean grass-fed beef.
Pork farming can sometimes be an ethically questionable practice, so be sure to buy, free- range meat free of hormones and antibiotics. Wild pork is the best choice, as it’s naturally leaner and packs more of a flavour punch
